About this event
- Event lasts 1 hour 30 minutes
Bravery is Contagious is a virtual gathering for adult survivors of SSA. Join us for a safe space to share experiences, offer support, and connect with others who understand what you’ve been through. This event is run by Dr Risa Shaw and SARSAS.
Dr. Risa Shaw is a survivor of brother-sister incest. In her new preface of the second edition of Not Child’s Play, she reveals the power of 40 years of truth-telling to address the abuse, shame, self-blame, self-hatred, and damage done not only to her, but to every survivor of sibling incest. Find out more at Not Child’s Play – Healing From and Ending Sibling Sexual Abuse (notchildsplay.com)
“Not Child’s Play courageously dismantles the veil of silence surrounding the pervasive issue of brother-sister incest. Through the powerful narratives of 35 survivors who endured years of sexual assault by their brothers, the profound trauma and devastation inflicted by this hidden form of abuse are brought to light. These women, expressing themselves through prose, poetry, and visual art, boldly expose long-concealed family secrets and injuries that have lingered in the shadows of shame and silence for far too long.” notchildsplay.com
Throughout this workshop she will talk about and give examples from participant survivors of the significance of telling your story and disclosure as well as the significance of the trajectory of disclosure with family members. This event is all about coming together, finding strength in each other, and realizing that you are not alone in your journey. Let’s inspire and uplift one another as we navigate the challenges of healing and growth.
Goals of the workshop:
- To think about what we do with this truth of our lives
- To think about how we integrate our experiences
- To think about how we take our power back
- To have conversation among survivors
- To get a sense of what else survivors want.
We can’t wait to see you there!
Please note that you do not have to have your camera on and can change your name on screen to remain anonymous. There will be a well-being support person online if needed. This is an interactive, educational workshop. It is not intended as a group therapy session, you are not expected to share your experiences. You can listen and learn from others.
